Frequently asked questions

Postoperative care is the care you receive after a surgical procedure. The type of postoperative care you need depends on the type of surgery you have, as well as your health history. It often includes pain management and wound care. Postoperative care begins immediately after surgery.

Regain your independence. Reduce any anxiety that you may have and regain your confidence. Mobilisation exercises to improve circulation and range of movement. Help clear any secretions, improve lung volumes and prevent chest infections.

If there are no contraindications or complications, the patient may be fully functional once they have completed rehabilitation. Unfortunately, with some large or extensive preoperative damage, the patient’s and surgeon’s goals is a pain free normal life without sport.

Since it typically takes six to eight weeks for soft tissue to heal, you should plan to participate in therapeutic activities for at least that long. Depending on the surgery, rehabilitation could take place inpatient or outpatient, or some combination of both
